Epistaxis is also known as acute hemorrhage or nose bleed. It is an ailment wherein bleeding happens from the nasal pit or nostrils. This is an indication of an increase in the body’s heat and is also caused because of increased blood pressure and a few other disorders. People usually suffer from this condition in the summer.
Most nosebleeds are harmless, self-restricting, and unconstrained. Bleeding from the nose normally happens when the membranes covering the inner nose are disturbed or aggravated and cause unusual bleeding.
Epistaxis is in many cases a terrifying sight and can be because by heart disease, pregnancy, bleeding problems, and acute health conditions like typhoid, pneumonia, dengue fever, measles, and so on.
According to Ayurveda, bleeding from the nose is a type of Urdhvagata raktapitta, which occurs due to vitiated Pitta getting aggravated and mixed with exceeded Rakta. Improper diet and lifestyle aggravates Doshas, especially Pitta, and creates Aam. This Pitta vitiates into Rakta vaha channel. The polluted Rakta dhatu increases in the amount due to the Hot & Drava guna (Hot & Liquid potency) of Pitta, and it starts flowing out from the channels.
Any sudden action like blowing the nose to hard results in bleeding from the nose due to the sensitive and dry inner membrane of the nose. The appearance of blood coming from the nose looks thick, pale unctuous, and viscid. This is known as Epistaxis.
